On June 14, 2016, the Lancang-Mekong Countries Joint Working Group on Connectivity convened its first meeting in Kunming, Yunnan, marking the official establishment of the Joint Working Group.

On June 13, 2017, the (second) director-level meeting of the Joint Working Group on Connectivity for Lancang-Mekong Cooperation was held in Kunming, the capital of southwest China's Yunnan province.
